Get Set for Summer Reading

Enhancing Literacy and Bolstering Learning Through Summer Reading and Enrichment Programs at Jasper County Public Libraries

By Vasilisa C. Hamilton

The 25,000+ residents of Jasper County, the southernmost county in the South Carolina Lowcountry, have two public libraries to serve them: Pratt Memorial Library, located in the county seat of Ridgeland, S.C., and Hardeeville Library, located in Hardeeville, S.C.

Pratt and Hardeeville Libraries are part of the Allendale Hampton Jasper (AHJ) Regional Library System, which includes Allendale, Hampton, Estill, Ridgeland, and Hardeeville Public Libraries. The AHJ Regional Library System strives to be "the place to learn, the place to create, and the place to be."

The Case for Jasper County Public Libraries

We believe our libraries are essential to the life of our community. They serve as learning hubs, hosting children's storytime; summer reading; crafts; arts-and music-enrichment programs; meet-the-candidate forums; home-energy savings workshops; income-tax assistance; and tutoring and literacy programs, just to name a few.

Many Jasper County and AHJ Regional Library services have been curtailed due to the pandemic's ongoing impact here in the Palmetto State, but we continue to provide services that complement and supplement hybrid and virtual instruction and resources offered in area schools.

Why It Can't Wait

We are working to make our Summer 2021 Reading and Enrichment Programs even more nimble and robust, and to expand our offerings for readers of all ages. Your financial contributions and support will allow us to bolster and enhance our summer reading and enrichment programs.

How You Can Help

We have non-profit status and can provide our federal tax identification number upon request. We sincerely appreciate your consideration.
